The new Mercedes-Benz GLB is the mysterious SUV that Daimler introduced this past spring. It comes with the boxy angular shape of the G-Class, rounded here and there and with the practicality of the company’s compact class. Are you sure you know all of its secrets?

Here are 5 things that you might not know about the new Mercedes-Benz GLB.

1. It is the company’s first compact SUV that can accommodate up to seven people. It features quite compact proportions: 4.634 millimeters in length, 1.834 millimeters in width and 1.658 millimeters in height, so from outside, it may not seem that spacious. Mercedes though reveals that people up to 1.68 meters can travel in the third seat row.
2. But what about those that take a seat in front of them? At 2829 millimeters the GLB has ten centimeters more wheelbase than, for example, the new B-Class. The headroom in the first seat row is 1035 millimeters – a best in this segment. At 967 millimeters the effective legroom in the rear of the five-seater is at an especially comfortable level, Mercedes claims.

1. The new GLB is the eighth member of the compact family of the starred premium carmaker, following the A-Class hatchback, the A-Class Saloon and the long-wheelbase A-Class Saloon, the B-Class, the CLA Coupé, the CLA Shooting Brake and the GLA, all of them already on the market.
2. All seven can go off-roading. The new Mercedes-Benz GLB can be equipped with a special Off-Road Engineering Package. What does it bring? An animation displays the exact driving situation, with a realistic presentation of the gradient, inclination angle and technical settings. It also comes with hill-start assistance systems such as the Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR).
   
3. A Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 is on the way, powered by the company’s 2.0-liter turbo engine that also sets the A 35 in motion. But the Mercedes reps are quite reserved when it comes to the extreme GLB 45. Whether it will arrive on the market, it remains to be seen.
